A firm decision to do or not to do something.. A solution… An ending to…. Wow.  And as a society, this is the word that we chose to describe our goals for the upcoming New Year. Resolution.  It has great intention, and I truly believe it was for all of the right reasons because it is very bold.  It is not only firm in its meaning but also has great discipline in the dedication that follows “living out the definition”.  The only issue is, a majority of our culture looks at expressing these goals for just the year or only until they have reached their destination, guilty as charged.

We always think that a New Year means a time to start again, or do-over, which is good. I am a strong believer that January 1st is the perfect time to rethink our lives, and start tackling goals.  But it becomes a problem when the goals only stick for the year, or a few months, or even just several short weeks. I know for myself, I often forget to take these goals and implement them into my life, because after I have accomplished it, there is no longer as much purpose.  But what we need to remember is that to resolve means to not go back, and to bring a remedy to an obstacle or question.  Therefore, I think it is finally time we ditch the typical New Year’s resolutions.  I think that it is finally time that we give these so called “resolutions” a new meaning.  I think it is time that we let 2018 be more than just a new year, but a new life.

PSA: You are allowed to let 2018 be a catalyst for change.  Let this year manifest the type of change that transforms your life radically and gives you what YOU need.

We must keep in mind that perfection when trying to reach a destination does not exist.  The path is not always a straight shot from A to B.  We won’t always have the perfect moment, the perfect opportunity, or the perfect surrounding, but we can make them everything that we need.  We have to create our own opportunities.  Sometimes we have to ignite the new beginnings, and in many cases, that means we won’t always be ready.  Sometimes, risk will fall before readiness.  Sometimes waiting is going to fall after doing.  Sometimes, creation only happens in the midst of uncertainty.  But that doesn’t mean it isn’t impossible, it simply means that it isn’t always going to be easy.  Reaching goals is never going to be clear, perfect, and crisp.  Sometimes, your goals will be attained easier, but many times it won’t go as planned.  And this year, I want you to remember, that is okay. You can still do it.

Let this year be the year that you take a leap of faith feeling frightened in every way possible, yet still knowing that you can do it, because you believe in what you’re doing and its purpose.

You see, it is better to start somewhere rather than think that the future is fixed.  The future is uncertain, dynamic, and constantly growing.  The future has all of the potential that you let it receive.  Do not let this New Year be a time for frustration over the now, but rather developing lifelong habits to let your future gain even more opportunity.  Make 2018 a blank canvas.  Allow yourself to adopt the courage to take the first step in drawing out the lines on the blank canvas, instead of waiting for the stars to align and the timing to be perfect.  The time is now to make a resolution true to its definition.

Will it most likely be challenging?  Of course.  Nothing worth adding into your life comes without a little battle.  Sometimes making that true resolution will scare you, disappoint you, or even make you want to go back.  But don’t.  Let there be more wins than losses. Keep your concentration on the gain, and learn something from every experience.

In 2018, try to find something good in every situation.

Overall, you’ll never always be able control what happens.  Sometimes, you will try your hardest and outcome will just not be in your favor.  However, you can definitely choose how to react to it.

Let 2018 be the year you face fear head on, saying “I know that even when I don’t win, I will because I am becoming even stronger for the unknown.”  When you are faced with the option of staying in your comfort zone, start choosing to take the risky road knowing that you’re fulfilling your calling, purpose, and living with no regret or wonder.

Let 2018 be the year that puts life into your resolution.

Let 2018 be the year that is more than a bulleted list of goals.  Instead go out, try to accomplish them, and learn a thing or two along the way.

Let this year take you by surprise, and give you wisdom.

In 2018, embrace every twist, and build off every success.  Give 2018 all of the love, confidence, and courage that you possibly can.  Try to make it more than just a point of reaching goals, but actually reaching a new perspective.

Let 2018 be the year you give yourself freely to the unknown, believing that it will be nothing short of rewarding.

With all that I am,

Nicole
